
Governor Bruce Rauner says his new budget proposal is balanced but that could come at the expense of state workers, teachers, and retirees.
Rauner’s proposal laid out in a speech you heard live on WMAY calls for changes to pensions and public employee health benefits and would shift costs for teacher pensions from the state to local school districts, potentially driving up property tax rates.
The governor says that would lay the foundation to cut the state income tax rate in the future, although that rate would not be reduced in the coming fiscal year.
