Welch Believes ‘Cover Up’ Involved In Legionnaires Outbreak

An Illinois lawmaker says there seems to be a “cover-up” over the Legionnaires Disease outbreak at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

Democratic Representative Chris Welch says state agencies and the Rauner administration have not been forthcoming with emails detailing what state officials knew and when they knew it when the deadly outbreak began in 2015.

That drew an angry reaction from state Public Health Director Nirav Shah, who says accusations of a cover-up are unfounded and are “wholly rejected.”
