Republican candidate for governor Jeanne Ives is standing by an ad that others say is offensive and should be taken down.
Ives says the ad will continue to run at least through the end of this week. Critics say the ad features harmful stereotypes… like a man in drag pretending to be a transgender woman, thanking incumbent GOP Governor Bruce Rauner for letting him use the “little girl’s room.”
Ives says the ad is “accurate” and depicts the effects of Rauner’s policies, and she says it’s being received favorably be people who want her to speak out against Rauner.
