State Officials Remind of Earthquake Awareness and Preparedness

February marks the anniversary of the worst earthquake in Illinois history… an estimated magnitude 8 quake along the New Madrid Fault back in 1812. So state officials use February to stress earthquake awareness and preparedness.

They warn that a similar quake in this day and age could cause significant damage in Southern Illinois… which would have disruptive ripple effects in other parts of the state.

They encourage you to learn more about earthquake safety and making your home quake-proof at the website ready.illinois.gov.
