A University of Illinois professor and critic of the school’s former symbol, Chief Illiniwek, is on paid leave after an incident that led to his arrest earlier this month.
Jay Rosenstein was ultimately not charged after he was accused of videotaping a student and supporter of Chief Illiniwek in a restroom during a Fighting Illini basketball game. Rosenstein says he was not taping the student using the restroom but wanted to document whether any university employees were helping the student get into his unofficial Illiniwek costume.
Rosenstein, who makes more than $120,000 a year, will remain on paid leave while the university investigates the incident.
