New data shows Illinois year after year is consistently among the states with the most deaths related to the effects of extreme cold.
Illinois has been among the top five states with the most cold-related deaths each year from 1999 to 2016. 2017 data has not been finalized yet.
The single worst year was 2014 when 110 people around the state died of hypothermia during that winter of the polar vortex.
