There were lots of fireworks in what may be the only head-to-head meeting of Governor Bruce Rauner and opponent Jeanne Ives before the March Republican primary.
The two clashed frequently in a joint appearance before the Chicago Tribune editorial board, with Ives calling Rauner ineffective and untrustworthy, while Rauner said Ives was rude and disrespectful.
The sharpest disagreement may have been over the bill Rauner signed to allow taxpayer funding for some abortions.
Rauner has declined other invitations to debate Ives, including a proposed February debate sponsored by the State Journal-Register and WMAY.
