
Democratic candidate for governor Bob Daiber is vowing to be an advocate for labor.
Daiber says he will fight for laws to protect workers’ wages, including the Prevailing Wage Act that sets standards for pay on government contracts. Daiber also pledges to fight “right-to-work” laws in the state. Daiber has also advocated for equal pay for men and women but the Chicago Tribune reports that Madison County taxpayers had to foot the bill for a $500,000 settlement to an employee who sued Daiber in his role as regional superintendent of schools.
The woman claimed she was fired for complaining about pay inequity.
