Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder is defiant in the face of opposition to his plans for a water-themed park on the block just north of the Governor’s Mansion.
Langfelder used his “State of Downtown” speech Thursday night to make his case for why he thinks the park is a better fit and a better draw for downtown than mixed residential and commercial developments.
Langfelder also announced plans to extend the Capitol Street landscaping to 5th and 6th Streets near the Old State Capitol… and eventually throughout downtown. The speech was part of the annual Downtown Springfield Inc. awards banquet, this year marking DSI’s 25th anniversary.
