A Democratic candidate for governor is calling for a ban on a controversial herbicide.
Dicamba is used to kill weeds in fields where farmers have planted soybeans that are genetically modified to withstand the chemical. But Bob Daiber says dicamba often drifts into neighboring fields, killing other farmers’ crops.
The chemical is the subject of pending lawsuits, but Daiber says it should be banned until it no longer poses a risk to Illinois agri-business.
