The stage is set for a showdown between Governor Bruce Rauner and House Speaker Mike Madigan. Rauner says he will seek legislation prohibiting lawmakers from making money as lawyers handling property tax appeals.
That’s a big part of Madigan’s law practice… and a major bone of contention with Rauner, who says it’s a major conflict of interest.
Even before that bill is introduced, Rauner says he will sign an executive order that would ban lawmakers from arguing cases before the state’s Property Tax Appeals Board.
