The Springfield City Council approved a liquor license for the AMC movie theater on Dirksen Parkway on Tuesday night.
The council created a special category for movie theaters, which do not allow for video gaming regardless of the number of food sales.
Currently, the movie theater located at 2945 South Dirksen Parkway is undergoing a $7 million renovation from its parent company, AMC.
This will be the only theater to serve alcohol in town.
