State Education Officials to Ask for Additional Funding

State education officials are planning to ask for a major boost in school funding in the upcoming state budget. An analysis of the State Board of Education budget request says it wants Illinois schools to reach 90-percent of the funding adequacy target.

But that would require an increase of more than $7 billion over current funding levels.

Governor Bruce Rauner has already said he wants to seek a rollback of the state income tax increase as part of his next budget… which could leave less revenue for a big funding boost.
