Durbin Stands By His Account of Closed Door Meeting with Trump

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is not budging from his contention that President Trump used a vulgar slur to describe third-world nations and questioned why immigrants from those countries should be allowed into the U.S.

Trump tweeted Monday that Durbin “misrepresented” his remarks in a closed-door meeting, but Durbin says there was no mistaking Trump’s words or his meaning.

Meanwhile, Governor Bruce Rauner is getting swept up in the controversy, taking heat after he refused to say whether he thought Trump’s reported comments were racist.

Rauner does say that kind of rhetoric has no place in the national discussion.
