The teacher shortage around Illinois is getting worse, not better, according to a new survey from the Illinois Association of Regional School Superintendents.
The problem is especially bad in rural areas of Central and Southern Illinois, where a majority of districts say they are having difficulty finding substitute teachers or getting qualified applicants for available full-time positions.
Sangamon-Menard Regional Superintendent Jeff Vose says the state needs to remove hurdles for teachers… including finding ways to make it easier for people with real-world experience in a subject area to become classroom teachers.
