A local lawmaker says the state director of Public Health should resign over the department’s handling of the Legionnaires Disease outbreak at the Illinois Veterans Home.
Republican Senator Sam McCann says the safety net failed in this situation, and believes Director Nirav Shah should be held accountable for the six-day delay between becoming aware of the outbreak and notifying residents and the public at large.
