U.S. Senator Dick Durbin now says the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy should not be closed… even though he says there is no way to absolutely guarantee that there won’t be further cases of deadly Legionnaires Disease there.
Durbin toured the facility and met with Governor Bruce Rauner… who is spending several nights there to show that he believes the home is safe.
Durbin says federal officials are working with the state on further steps to minimize the risk of new cases.
But the Illinois Democrat is also critical of the state’s delay in publicly acknowledging the outbreak when it began three years ago.
