In a matter of days, Springfield will be a town without a Denny’s.
The 24-hour restaurant chain confirms that its last remaining Springfield store… next to White Oaks Mall… will close on January 15th. That comes months after the Denny’s on Stevenson Drive shut down. A statement from Denny’s does not give a reason for the closure, but says the chain does not have current plans to find a new Springfield location.
More Sears and Kmart stores are closing around Illinois and across the country… but both chains’ will keep their remaining Springfield stores open. Three Sears and three Kmart stores in Illinois are targeted for closure in the weeks ahead. But neither the Sears at White Oaks Mall nor the Kmart on Clear Lake is on the list. The retail giant has had multiple rounds of store closures as it tries to stop a long, steep financial decline.
