It’s a much busier holiday season than usual at the Sangamon County Treasurer’s Office. Hundreds of people are rushing to prepay their property taxes in this calendar year… hoping to take a bigger deduction than may be available to them when the new federal tax law takes effect in the New Year.
The office says more than 14-hundred people have prepaid $9 million in property taxes in just the last couple of weeks… and hundreds more are expected to do so before this weekend’s deadline.
But the office says you should consult a tax professional to make sure it’s in your best financial interest to prepay.
