State Budget Woes Tops Illinois Stories Of 2017

Passage of a long-overdue state budget last summer comes in at Number One on the Associated Press list of the Top Ten Illinois Stories of 2017.

Lawmakers approved that budget and an income tax increase over Governor Bruce Rauner’s veto, ending more than two years without a spending plan in place. Other big stories of the year include school funding reform, the total solar eclipse, and the disappearance of a visiting Chinese scholar at the University of Illinois.

WMAY will unveil our own list of the Top Ten state and local stories of the year this weekend on Podium, airing Saturday morning at 5am and Saturday afternoon at 1.
