New Laws Set To Take Effect Next Week

We’re less than a week away from the start of the New Year… and a whole bunch of new laws that take effect on January 1st.

They include the new requirement that state agencies report all unpaid bills to the comptroller monthly, instead of annually. The new law allowing tax dollars to be used for some abortions is also set to take effect, but it remains the subject of a court battle.

Other new laws will try to steer more drug offenders to treatment instead of jail, and declare corn as the official state grain of Illinois.
