Home health care companies are a growing industry in Illinois, one that is apparently overrun with fraud and corruption.
A Chicago Tribune investigation finds that the state has issued large numbers of licenses with little or no oversight. There’s not even a need for a criminal background check before someone can get authorization to start a home health care business.
The Chicago area alone has accounted for more than $100 million in fraudulent home health care claims in just the past five years.
