Illinois’s Stack of Unpaid Bills Now Below $9 Billion

Illinois is continuing to whittle away at its backlog of bills. The stack of unpaid bills is now below $9 billion, as Comptroller Susana Mendoza continues to take advantage of recent bond sales and higher tax income to pay off debts that have been sitting for months.

It’s the lowest that the backlog has been in more than a year… down from a peak of $16 billion at the end of October.
