Some Schools Would Be Replaced Or Rebuilt Under District 186 Facilities Plan

Three Springfield elementary schools would be torn down and replaced… and two of the city’s high schools would be partially replaced… under a sweeping District 186 facilities proposal.

After months of meetings and discussions, the district’s plan is aimed at using the millions of dollars that would be needed to maintain aging schools and use that to work toward a “preferred vision” for the district.

Hazel Dell and Laketown schools would be combined on a new site, while Owen Marsh would be replaced with a new building on its same site. In addition, Springfield and Lanphier High Schools would be partially torn down and rebuilt, while the remaining sections would be modernized.

The district plans more community meetings to seek public approval of the plan and determine the best funding sources.
