A suburban Chicago school district is once again facing a legal challenge over its treatment of a transgender student. 18-year-old Nova Maday identifies as female and wants to use the girls’ locker room to change for PE classes.
But Palatine High School has refused and instead offered to let Maday change in the nurse’s office or in a separate single-user room that is kept locked.
She says using those facilities often makes her late for class and represents unfair and unequal treatment.
The ACLU of Illinois is representing her, as it did another transgender student who won a similar fight against Palatine.
