A new downtown-only route is just the beginning of the changes planned for the Sangamon Mass Transit District in 2018… the year that marks the district’s 50th anniversary.
SMTD is working on a complete redesign of its route, to coincide with the move of its central transfer station over to near the county building.
New routes could take buses out near Kmart on Clear Lake, to retail outlets near 6th and Stevenson, and to Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.
SMTD hopes to implement the changes as early as next August… but first it wants to get input from the public on the proposed changes.
