Newly-Released Report Cites Candidate’s Wife For Conflict Of Interest

A newly-released report claims the wife of Sangamon County Sheriff candidate Jack Campbell improperly took part in hiring interviews for an IDOT vacancy that was ultimately filled by a neighbor and close friend of the couple… who had donated to Campbell’s 2014 campaign for sheriff.

The investigation by the Office of the Executive Inspector General was completed in June 2016 but was only now posted on the agency’s website.

It found that Laura Campbell violated state ethics rules by taking part in the interviews, and concluded that she did not disclose the relationship with the applicant and later misled investigators about her actions. Laura Campbell denies those claims.
