Over the weekend, news circulated that David Cassidy, star of the TV series ‘The Partridge Family’ and teen heartthrob of the 1970’s was admitted to a Florida hospital and placed into a coma with organ failure.
His publicist, JoAnn Geffen has confirmed that he has passed away at the age of 67 by releasing a statement from the Cassidy family:
“On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”
Cassidy had recently been diagnosed with dementia and had announced that he would retire from touring after 2017. He battled drug and alcohol abuse throughout his life.
He is survived by his two children, Katie and Beau Cassidy.
