Sangamon County Board Confident Springfield Will Join Economic Development Initiative

The chairman of the Sangamon County Board remains confident that the city of Springfield will join the county in a new economic development initiative… even though the city has so far resisted the idea.

The county board has authorized spending $500-thousand dollars a year on the effort, which would be partially financed and overseen by local business leaders.

But the city has balked at that kind of financial commitment. On the WMAY News Feed, county board chair Andy Van Meter said he hopes the city will come around because the effort won’t be effective unless everyone is pulling in the same direction.
