Illinois Will Stay in Crosscheck Program

The state of Illinois will stay in the controversial Crosscheck voter verification program. A motion for Illinois to pull out of the multi-state initiative failed on a 4-to-4 tie vote of the State Board of Elections.

Supporters of Crosscheck say Illinois needs a way to make sure that people registered to vote here are not also registered, and potentially voting, in other states.

But critics say Crosscheck is not secure, error-prone, and could be used to improperly purge people from voter rolls.
